2016:    NSAA Show at  Dunkirk Technology Incubator:

Graphite on Strathmore paper. It’s fairly large: 29.5” W x 23”H framed.

This is a typical manor house where so many of our ancestors, worked before emigrating to the US.  At one time, this house was owned by the Polish social activist and philosopher, Karol Libelt. When I beheld it, in all of its overgrown glory, I sensed the ghosts of ancestors lurking about. In this portrait, I sought to evoke the lost lives and a lifestyle.

Madonna and Jug   acrylic on canvas panel    16”x 24”

One is the Madonna
Madonna and Jug 1This simple still life portrays two threads of life: one is the Madonna, the other is the wine jug. The Madonna I bought from a woodcarver in Gdansk, Poland. In this piece she represents our religious/spiritual heritage. The Wine Jug I found in a Heidelberg Flea Market. In the painting, it represents the social aspect of our lives. The background cloth itself portrays the complex mixing of so many family lines that come together in a single life.
